HOW MUCH DOES A NIAGARA FALLS TOUR COST?

If you’ve been shopping around for Niagara Falls tour options lately you probably noticed how different the costs can sometimes be between tour packages and tour companies.

If you’re one of the many who are wondering what a tour of Niagara Falls should cost, we’re hoping this article can help shed some light.

The first thing to know is that the reason you might be seeing a large range of tour pricing online is because there is an equally large range of tour offerings available.

These are the 3 most important questions that have the biggest impact on the price of a Niagara Falls tour.

#1 HOW LONG IS THE TOUR?

Generally speaking, the longer the tour the more it will cost (but not always, more on that below).

Niagara Falls tours length

For example, a tour that lasts 3 hours will usually cost less than a tour that takes 5+ hours.

Especially if you’re looking at a Niagara Falls tour package that includes bus transportation from another city like Toronto or Buffalo. In those cases the costs will usually be higher to account for the added time and expense shouldered by the tour company to bring you into Niagara Falls.

On the other hand, if you’re joining a tour locally in Niagara Falls the costs will usually be comparatively lower since those transportation costs are not factored in.

So if you’re comparing two seemingly similar tour offerings and wondering why they’re different in price, the first thing to check would be the tour duration.

The second thing to check would be...

#2 WHAT ATTRACTIONS ARE INCLUDED ON THE TOUR?

This is the big one.

Simply put, the more attractions included on a tour the more it will cost.

Niagara Falls tours attractions

For example, a tour that includes all of the following:

Will most likely cost more than a tour that only includes 1 or 2 of these attractions.

It’s not just about HOW MANY stops there are on a tour, it’s also about WHICH stops are offered on the tour.

Using Walk Niagara Tours as an example, each of our tours include at least 3 popular Niagara Falls attractions, but they also each include other places of interest to see and learn about that do not impact the overall price of the tour (i.e. Oakes Garden, Cave of Winds, Goat Island etc.,).

The reason some places of interest do not impact the tour price is because they are not ticketed attractions so they do not cost the tour operator additional expenses.

The important thing to be aware of is which attractions are ticketed that add to the costs (i.e. Skylon Tower, Journey Behind The Falls, Boat Tour etc.,) and which are not (i.e. Queen Victoria Park, Old Scow etc.,).

If you’re looking at 2 different tours with the same length and wondering why they’re priced differently, take a close look at the list of attractions included on each tour.

More fundamentally speaking, it could also be about...

#3 WHAT KIND OF TOUR IS IT?

Regardless of the length of a tour and which attractions are included, something that often has an impact on costs is the type of tour.

Niagara Falls tours type

While there are exceptions to every rule, this cost hierarchy related to the tour types is due to the level of expense a tour operator is taking on.

All else being equal, a walking tour will usually cost a little less than a bus tour and a bus tour will usually cost a little less than a helicopter tour.

This is not shocking. After all, shoes cost less than tires and tires cost less than propellers.

With all these factors in mind, you may come across a situation where all 3 are equal (same length, attractions and type) yet the price is still different.

This could be due to other factors that impact price which is more nuanced and difficult to quantify such as:

  • The amount of overhead a company deals with
  • The quality & experience level of the tour companies
  • If there is an active sale / discount being offered
  • Don’t forget good ol’ fashioned corporate greed
