NIAGARA FALLS TOURS IN THE WINTER
When you imagine a Niagara Falls tour you’re probably picturing the sun shining, lots of smiling people and a refreshing mist off the falls to cool you down.
While all of this is true during a summer tour, Niagara Falls tours during the winter can be great in their own way!
IS IT A GOOD IDEA TO VISIT NIAGARA FALLS IN THE WINTER?
While everyone’s tastes and interests are different this is obviously a subjective opinion but YES!
There is a certain magic about a snow covered Niagara Falls Canada during the winter months thanks in part to:
- Winter Festival of Lights (runs from November - February each year)
- Niagara Falls Illumination (every evening starting at dusk, means there is more opportunity to see them in the winter when it gets dark earlier)
- New Years Eve in Niagara Falls
- Clifton Hills Niagara SkyWheel (each enclosed gondola is climate controlled to keep you warm)
There are also practical reasons why visiting Niagara Falls in the winter is a good idea:
- Smaller crowds
- Lower off season costs
- More accommodation availability
- Easier to find parking
So if you’re able to get away for an evening, day, weekend or longer this winter, Niagara Falls Canada should be a place you consider visiting.
ARE NIAGARA FALLS ATTRACTIONS OPEN DURING THE WINTER?
The vast majority of attractions in Niagara Falls Canada are open all year round, including the winter.
This includes:
- Skylon Tower
- Journey Behind The Falls
- Tunnel Experience
- Niagara Falls Power Plant
- Clifton Hill
- Casinos
The only attractions that are seasonal and do not operate during the winter are:
While the icy river means the attractions on or next to the water must close down during the winter, there is still so much to see and do between November and April with less crowds and lines to compete with!

DOES NIAGARA FALLS FREEZE IN THE WINTER?
No, but we understand the question!
If the temperatures get down low enough for a long enough time, the mist surrounding the falls can begin to form an ice crust over top of the falling water.
The sight can be awe inspiring!
